UNFORGETTABLE Holy Week in Quintana Roo

blog.by C21 Caribbean blog.datep 12/04/2022

We are officially in Holy Week, a time of rest, celebration and even reflection. Thanks to the traditions of the Christian religion, we can take a break from busy life and corporate work. This period of time began this Sunday, April 10, with its last day being April 17.

Beyond the religious and spiritual life, you deserve to rest. That is why we suggest an itinerary to enjoy and relax this Holy Week 2022:

April 11 - Holy Monday. Temple purification

Nothing better than purifying your body in a cenote in the region. You can choose "The route of the Cenotes" located in Puerto Morelos, which extends over 35 km and where you can find as many options as possible. (Impossible to enjoy all these springs in one day). There, you will find ecotourism parks to spend the day. In addition to cenotes, several of them include other activities such as zip lines, horseback riding and ATVs; some even include food. Already in Puerto Morelos, we suggest you snorkel in the second largest barrier reef in the world. We recommend you bring your official identification and cash in case you want to buy a souvenir, photos or a tour from local entrepreneurs.

April 12 – Holy Tuesday. Controversy Tuesday

“Give to Caesar what is Caesar's; and to God, what belongs to God”. Since you have relaxed a bit and have been in contact with nature, it is time now to socialize, to diversify. We recommend that you go to one of the many beaches that the state has. Playa Forum, for example, is a great option to meet people from all over the world. If you are passionate about water sports, you also have the alternative of spending your free time to the extreme, exercising, as it is a well-known meeting point for athletes and young people who want to have a good time. There, you can meet people from all over the world and live together without barriers. Get a little wild and meet people.

If you are staying in Cancun or in the Hotel Zone, you cannot miss going to a club at night to dance. The most famous, "Cocobongo", located in the hotel zone of Cancun, offers shows of diverse music, with professional dancers and acrobats. They have free national open bar and a courtesy snack. If you have some appetite, they also have a hot and cold menu. We recommend bringing a debit/credit card and official identification. You will be amazed by the costumes, the light show and the joy that the place emanates.

April 13 – Holy Wednesday. Starting Easter

Moments to be with people you love; family or friends. We suggest Lorenzillo's restaurant, located on Boulevard Kukulkan, at kilometer 10.5, in the Cancun Hotel Zone. With a very marine style, this restaurant will offer you the best service, in addition to its great menu of delicious fish and seafood.

Most of the diners go to Lorenzillo's to try their emblematic lobster, where it is possible to choose it for consumption. Enjoy its culinary wonders and take a couple of photos on its dock overlooking the Nichupté lagoon. Later, you can enjoy a walk through the hotel zone or find a local supplier to take a yacht ride in the lagoon.

April 14 – Holy Thursday. The Last Supper

Take a light suitcase and start the trip to Caleta Tankah. This hotel - beach club, offers some views that you cannot miss on your visit to the Riviera Maya. Feel the love of the Riviera by enjoying its sparkling salt water. In addition to the beach, they have a cove with turquoise waters and among the green nature, you will find a hidden surprise: a crystal clear cenote to give you a purifying bath. They have lounge chairs and an a la carte menu. It is located at km 233 on the Chetumal – Cancún federal highway.

On your return, if you are staying or based in Cancun, you can stop at Casa Rolandi to have your last great dinner with bread and wine. Casa Rolandi is an Italian gourmet restaurant, located in the hotel zone, to enjoy with family and friends.

April 15 – Good Friday. Offering

It's weekend, stand cheerful up, because it's beach day again!

This time, you could go to km 4.5 of the hotel zone, where you will find the Calinda Bridge, the place where the Nichupté Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea come together. On this bridge, you will be able to take great pictures, since the area also has a ferry pier and some very well preserved Spanish galleons. Although the area is not that big, you have several options to do. If you go to the pier, you will find Playa Linda, a small beach with transparent waters and white sand. Once you have enjoyed the sea, you can go to the scenic tower; a panoramic tower that offers views from 80 meters high. To eat, the "Sirenis" restaurant awaits you with its best fish and seafood menu, as well as snacks and pizzas. Get ready, because every Friday night this restaurant offers live salsa music. Offer your best steps to life!

If you don't feel like dancing, you can take a ride on one of the Spanish galleons. These large wooden ships offer a pirate show, music and a very special dinner, in which you can choose meat, chicken or lobster. You will have an incredible time sailing at sea.

April 16 – Holy Saturday. Saturday of Glory

With joy, head to the archaeological zone of Tulum. It is located at km 230 of the Chetumal – Cancún federal highway, 128 kilometers south of Cancún (approximately two hours), easily accessible by taking federal highway 370. You will learn about the Mayan culture and the history of the buildings, as well as their deities. Prepare yourself by wearing comfortable clothing, take with you plenty of water, and your swimsuit. This archaeological site has access to some stairs with a unique view, which take you to an exclusive beach of the place. Feel blessed, for the vibe of Tulum. You will find different gastronomic and shopping options in the city center, and more exclusive places such as restaurants, boutiques and cenotes, in the hotel zone of Tulum, as well as ceremonies and spiritual rituals that involve the blessing of the elements of the earth.

April 17 – Resurrection Sunday

Open the doors of your room and let the light of the Caribbean Paradise illuminate your day. Go out and enjoy what the Paradise in the Caribbean has for you.

To close the week, don't miss La Buena Barra, a restaurant specializing in contemporary Mexican food and meat, but they also offer fish, shellfish, soups, among other culinary delights. This restaurant located in the Hotel Zone will offer you beautiful views of the Nichupté lagoon worthy of photographing.

How about relaxing a bit and going shopping in the city? We have several options and the most popular to visit is Plaza La Isla. You can spend the day overthere, window shopping with the latest trends and buying gifts for you and your loved ones. You will find different duty-free options.

In addition, the plaza has a restaurant area where you can buy some food or drink if you need it. In this shopping mall there is also an aquarium with a dolphin show; and a wax museum, where you can spend time with your family.

TIPS TO ENJOY AT MOST YOUR HOLY WEEK

If you are visiting our state, your first stop will be at the international airport in the city of Cancun, for your convenience, you can rent a car, a taxi; or if you are more adventurous, take the different bus routes that exist throughout the state.

Always remember to carry valid official identification, credit card, and cash (since not all places accept credit cards). Also remember to bring sunscreen, a swimming suit, a change of clothes, a towel, comfortable shoes, and natural water to drink.

Before starting your route by car, check the water and oil levels, the tires of your car and that everything is in optimal conditions so that you do not have any delay in your journey.
